Staveley Choral Society win every class in the Mary Wakefield Music Festival competitions.  The Gazette writes: The day was historical in that Staveley Village Choir achieved the unique distinction of winning every class, and a happy band of singers returned home with no less than six trophies. The choirs which were conducted for the first tie by Mr.J.Noble, Kendal, was highly praised by the judge, who caused laughter when he stated that the men were as good as the women – and that was not often thought to be the case by the womenfolk.  Ably directed and with a keen sense of the music, the judge said the choir was excellent – and after warding them three first prizes in succession commented, before he gave the adjudication  in their fourth successful competition, “There’s no holding Staveley”.  They gained the highest mark in the festival to date when they won the sight reading for which they were awarded 90 marks for a note perfect performance. 

Women’s Choir Class – SCS 1st with 87 marks

Choral Society Class – SCS 1st with  88 marks

Men’s Choir Class – SCS 1st with 85 marks

Madrigal Class SCS 1st with 87 marks

Choral Sight-singing Class – SCS 1st with 90 marks

John Syddall Memorial Cup for highest aggregate in four choral classes SCS with 352 marks.
